The Ball-Chatham Educational Foundation is hosting its 7th annual 5K Run/Walk event to raise money for education initiatives within the Ball-Chatham School District on November 15th. Again this year, there will be a 1 mile run, the Titan Trot, for younger runners. Over the past six years, money raised from the Titan Trek event has helped purchase interactive whiteboard systems and/or components, valued at over $2,500 each. These were distributed to every designated K-8th grade classroom in the district. Further, multiple systems were funded by the Foundation and installed in high school classrooms. Last year the foundation awarded $24,000 for the purchase of Chromebooks. Monies raised will still support District technology enhancements, and learning opportunities that are available outside the classroom through foundation "Beyond the Walls" grant applications. Major sponsors for this year's event are:

Illinois law states: When approaching a marked school zone on days when school is in operation and children are present, a driver must discontinue wireless/cell-phone use, reduce speed to 20 mph, and stop and yield the right-of-way to any children or adults in the crosswalk area. In addition, drivers are reminded to obey the regulatory or guide signs in our parking lots, as marked. This is especially important for the safety of our children as they are being dropped off before school, or picked up after. Finally, please remember that all traffic must stop while school bus “stop” arms are out and buses are loading and unloading students – including all school facilities, roads, drives, parking lots, etc. By law, drivers are not allowed to pass a stopped school bus when the stop arm is displayed.
