Parade Begins at Celebration of the Visual Arts
The Ball-Chatham Educational Foundation's spring fundraiser aims to help enrich the creativity and innovative potential of our students by collecting donations in piggy banks specially painted by some of the district’s most talented artists! Monies raised will help fund each school's art program. The ceramic pigs will be unveiled at the district’s Celebration of the Visual Arts Show on March 8th, 1 p.m. at GIS.
The pigs will then be placed at the host sites until May 22nd to collect donations from our generous community. The host sites are:
- Island Bay Yacht Club
- Chatham Library
- County Market-Chatham
- Powerworks Fitness
- Edgar's Coffee House
- Casey's General Store, and
- All Ball-Chatham schools

Congratulations to the GHS Scholastic Bowl team, who won the Masonic Sectional Championship at Springfield High February 28. The team will compete at the Masonic State Tournament on Saturday, March 7 in Bloomington. GO TITANS!!
Beginning March 9, Ball-Chatham students in grades 3-8, and high school students enrolled in Algebra II and English III will take the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) tests. The PARCC replaces the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) and the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE). Students will complete assessments in the areas of math and English Language Arts. These assessments are fully aligned to the K-12 Illinois Learning Standards (Common Core) in English language arts and mathematics. The standards emphasize academic rigor, critical thinking, problem-solving, and college/career readiness for all students. Each school in the Ball-Chatham district has spent the last three years aligning curriculum to the Common Core. PARCC will be administered with paper and pencil in grades 3-4 and electronically (online) for grades 5-11.
Testing will take place between March 9 and 20 at the three elementary schools and between March 9 and April 3 at GIS, GMS and GHS. Students who miss any portion of the assessments will be assigned a make-up time within the testing window.
These State tests are lengthy - some can take nearly two hours to complete. You can help your child be prepared for the PARCC each day by making sure they get proper rest (at least 8 hrs.), eat breakfast (healthy and balanced), and remind them to stay calm and focused.
